A family studio with a long memory for making.
MAKANELL began as a small family business in 1970. The name joins makan — place, house — with Nell, after Nelly, the woman who established the work. The studio still designs interiors and makes furniture for private homes in Egypt.

Some clients come for design direction. Others need a property taken from shell to a livable interior, or a single piece of furniture made well. When the three work together, the home keeps one language from the first drawing to the last installation.
Bespoke Furniture
Pieces made for the room, not the catalogue.
Sofas, chairs and tables are designed and produced as individual work — bespoke furniture, not a stock range. The photographs here are of pieces MAKANELL has published.
